Lesson 2: Cause & Effect
Subject Area: Social Studies and Language Arts
Grade/Group: Grade 6 or 7; Heterogeneous group to include students of all readiness levels.
Time Frame: 3, 45 - minute classes
Objectives: The students will be able to:
Students of a lower readiness level can be provided with a cloze organizer asking for either the cause or effect found within a previously selected (by teacher or student) article to support the information required.
Provide an example of the cause and effect relationship for a selected event. For example, use a personal/modern event which affects the students' present life and discuss the cause and effect relationship of that event.
Students will be grouped based on the chosen event and share within a small heterogeneous group. Once the information has been shared by each student, the group will be asked to provide the class with 2 M.V.P.'s (Most Valuable Points) from their event.
Follow Up/Tie In:
Students will use the information and strategy of this lesson to develop a research based project during a later lesson in the series.
