3M Self-Checkout Tutorial

Check-out books* using the SM Self-Checkout System with "Touch Screen" located on the 2nd floor of the library near the staircases. Check-out books yourself, quickly and easily!

* The self-checkout is for books only; to check-out DVDs, please go to the Circulation Desk.

STEP #1 - Scan Your Library ID
  • Slide your ID card (barcode up) under the scanline, then remove (follow the on-screen prompts). You will hear a tone confirming your barcode has been read.

STEP #2 - Scan the Barcode
  • Open the book to the barcode, which is usually located on the last page of the book.
  • Slide the barcode under the scanline, then remove (follow the on-screen prompts). You will hear a tone confirming your barcode has been read.

STEP #3 - Desensitize the Book
  • Place the book, spine-down, into the cradle.
  • Slide the book forward, keeping the spine on the cradle (follow the on-screen prompts). You will hear a tone confirming that the book has been desensitized.
  • If you have more items to check-out, repeat Steps #2 & #3 for each additional book (follow the on-screen prompts). When you are finished checking-out books, go to Step #4.

STEP #4 - Print Receipt
  • On the screen, press "Print Receipt" to print your receipt.
  • Once your receipt has printed, take your receipt from the printer slot. Your receipt will list the item(s) you have checked out, along with its due date(s).

Always remember to bring your Salve ID card to be able to...
  • Check out books
  • Check out reserves
  • Make photocopies
  • Request books from another library

    Salve Card image
    Your library barcode is the 14 digit number on the bottom of your Salve ID card. Please note that your library barcode is not the same as your student ID number.
