MONROE SPECIAL COLLECTION ROOM

The purpose of the Special Collections Room is to house library materials of a unique nature in a secure, controlled environment.

What's in the Special Collections Room?

The Room's materials are represented in the online catalog. Library materials housed in the Special Collections Room are designated for research purposes only, and do not circulate.

Can anyone look at material from the Special Collections Room?

Yes, however patrons are not allowed to browse the Room's material. Before entering the Room patrons must state exactly which material(s) they wish to examine. In order to guarantee availability it is recommended that an appointment be scheduled in advance with either the Circulation or Reference Department.

What is the policy for the Munroe Special Collections Room?

  1. The patron must present a photo ID
  2. The patron must sign guest book
            a. name/signature
            b. institutional affiliation, if any
            c. list material(s) to be looked at
            d. reason for consulting material(s)
  3. A Librarian will open the Room and retrieve the requested material(s)
            a. no more than 3 bound items at a time
            b. no more than 1 manuscript or box at a time
            c. if material is fragile, the patron will use white gloves; Library provides this
            d. no material(s) may leave the Room
  4. The patron may use only pencil and paper, or a personal computer to take notes
  5. The patron must leave all other personal material outside the Room
  6. The patron must notify Circulation Desk when finished
