Find book reviews

To find book reviews, search by book title or author in one of the databases listed below. These databases index a large variety of journals, newspapers, and magazines, and allow you to search for articles by topic.

  • Book Review Digest Plus
    Coverage: 1983-present. Drawing from thousands of periodicals, Book Review Digest Plus indexes reviews of both fiction and non-fiction, and provides many full-text reviews and substantial review excerpts. Retrieve book summaries, bibliographic data, full-text reviews, review excerpts, or basic citations. Entries currently encompass some 1,300,000 reviews covering over 660,000 books and growing with daily updates. More than 115,000 full text reviews. Descriptive annotations of more than 150,000 books.

  • Book Review Digest Retrospective
    Coverage: 1905-1982. This database provides excerpts from and citations to reviews of adult and juvenile fiction and non-fiction. Covers 300,000 books. Virtually every book has at least one substantial review excerpt (up to 500 words), most have at least two, and many books have several review excerpts for a complete picture of how the book was received at the time it was published. Cites over 1.5 million book reviews.

  • Lexis-Nexis
    Lexis-Nexis is an all-full-text news, business, and legal database which includes many book reviews appearing in major newspapers. To find book reviews, in the side navigation bar, click "News," then "All News." Then enter the book title and/or author in the search boxes. Adjust the "Specify date" limiter to the dates you want to search.

  • Historical New York Times
    Provides full text newspaper coverage dating back to the first issue in 1851. To search for reviews, click "More search options" and under document type select "Review," then enter author and/or book title into the search box.

  • Omnifile Fulltext Mega
    Book reviews may be found in this multidisciplinary database by selecting "Book Review" under the "Document Type" limiter.

  • JSTOR
    JSTOR is a large multi-disciplinary database of full-text scholarly journals. To limit your search to book reviews, first click on the Advanced Search option. Then check off the box labeled "Review" under the "Limit to" option.
