What is copyright?

  • Copyright is protection provided by law to original works of scholarship, literature, music, drama or art.

  • Copyright gives the copyright owner control, for a specified period of time, over the sale, lease, performance or display of copyrighted works and ensures compensation for such use.

  • Copyright law provides for some limited use of copyrighted works for educational purposes without compensation.
