In addition to our subject guide on History, this is a guide to materials located in the library.

Use the online library catalog to identify and locate books and journals on History in the library. You can search for specific information by author or title, or subject. Search by keyword for a broader search. The Library of Congress Subject Headings, an index located in the reference area, can help you get the most information from your subject searches.(How to use LC's subject headings). Most of the material will be found in the main collection of the McKillop Library on the second floor.

Generally, material on History has call numbers beginning with D, E & F.

The D classification deals with European and World History, the E classification deals with American History and the F classification deals with local American history and the rest of North and South America. The classifications are sub-divided into many aspects of History. For example:

REFERENCE MATERIALS
REF - The Reference area is located on the first floor of McKillop Library. Reference materials do not circulate, but you are welcome to make photocopies. There two photocopiers near the elevator on the first floor. Ask at the Reference Desk, call 341-2289, or submit a question online if you need assistance. The current issues of journals in the library are located on the first floor. Older issues are located on the second floor in bound (book) format or as microform located on the first floor.
All the History journals available in the library are listed in our A to Z Serials List, subdivided into six general concentrations: North and South America, Europe, Asia, Near East, Africa, Australasia.
