In addition to our subject guide on Modern Languages, this is a guide to materials located in the library. Most language and literature books have call numbers beginning with P and are located on the 3rd floor. Those preceded by Ref are in the reference area on the 1st floor. Language dictionaries-monolingual, bilingual, slang, synonym, business, etc.-are located in the reference collection. Cultural and country information may be located in other classifications. Books written in a foreign language are classified according to the subject of the book. Click here to see a map The P classification is sub-divided by language and by national literatures. For example:
Use the online library catalog to identify and locate books and journals on topics related to Modern Languages in the library. You can search for specific information by author or title, or subject. Search by keyword for a broader search. The Library of Congress Subject Headings, an index located in the reference area, can help you get the most information from your subject searches.(How to use LC's subject headings). Most of the material will be found in the main collection of the McKillop Library.
FOREIGN LANGUAGE FILMS
The Library has an important collection of foreign feature films on videocassette and on DVD. To identify films produced in a particular language use the Word Search; enter the term "feature films;" then select the desired language. You may restrict your search to Salve at any point in your search.
JOURNALS/PERIODICALS (Selected)
The current issues of journals in the library are located on the first floor. Older issues are located on the second floor in bound (book) format or as microform. A complete list of the library's journals is found in our Serials A-Z List
