In addition to our subject guide on Social Work, there are numerous excellent materials located in the library.

The HM-HV classification is sub-divided into many asspects of sociology including social work. For example:

HM Sociology (General)
HN Social History and Conditions, Social Problems, Social reform
HQ The Family, Marriage, Women
HS Societies: secret, benevolent, etc.
HT Communities, Classes, Races HV Social Pathology, Social and Public Welfare, Criminology

Use the online library catalog to identify and locate books and journals on social work in the library. You can search for specific information by author or title, or subject. Search by keyword for a broader search. The Library of Congress Subject Headings, an index located in the reference area, can help you get the most information from your subject searches.(How to use LC's subject headings).   • The Social Work Dictionary
    REF HV 12 .B37 1999
    Definitions and descriptions of over 5,000 social work terms. Includes section on milestones in the field of social work and a copy of the NASW Code of Ethics.

    Articles relevant to international social justice and the meaning of social work around the world.

  • Professional Writing for the Human Services

    A style guide from NASW Press. Clearly written to help you add polish to your reports and papers. Includes coverage of basic writing techniques and how to use graphics. Has an excellent library literature search section.

  • Social Work Almanac

    Statistics related to social problems. Presented in charts and tables, highlighting such issues as crime and homelessness. Lists HUD's definitions of substandard housing.
