McKillop Library Quick News
Issue 1 Subscribe to Newsbrief September 2002

The purpose of this brief newsletter is to inform Salve Regina University faculty and staff of new additions and improvements to McKillop Library services and resources. Issuing a short one page newsletter will allow us to keep you informed on a more timely basis than is possible with our biannual print newsletter. As always, please check the McKillop Library website for the most current information.

  1. THE NEW YORK TIMES IS NOW COMPLETELY AVAILABLE ONLINE!
The library has recently subscribed to the Proquest New York Times Historical Newspaper file. This database offers full-text and full-image articles for the New York Times dating back to the 19th century. In most cases, the collection includes digital reproductions of every page from every issue--cover to cover, from 1851 through 1999.
  2. NEW DATABASES
Other new databases purchased over the summer break are:
             BioOne
             EBSCO Business Source Premier
             EBSCO Magill OnAuthors
             EBSCO PsycArticles
             EBSCO Sociological Collection
             World Shakespeare Bibliography Online
For descriptions of all the electronic databases available at the McKillop Library, check our Database page with a breakdown of databases alphabetically and by subject area.
  3. WORKSHOPS
The Reference Department will be offering workshops during the Fall Semester on searching the HELIN catalog and using interlibrary loan, searching EBSCO Academic Search Premiere, basic Internet skills and website evaluation, and IMP email system usage. Upcoming Workshops are Internet searching on October 3rd, IMP Email on October 9th, EBSCOhost Academic Search on October 17th, and HELIN Catalog on October 23rd.
  4. NEW OFFICES
Christine Bagley, Curriculum Resources Librarian, is now located in Room 317 on the third floor of McKillop next to the Curriculum Resources Library. Chris is looking forward to enhancing services to the Education community, so please contact her at x2375 or at bagleyc@salve.edu with any requests or suggestions. John Lewis, Head Reference Librarian, is now located in Room 107 to the right of the main entrance. Please contact either John at x2687 or Cathy Rowe, Instructional Services Librarian, at x2287 if you would like to schedule library instruction for any of your classes during the Fall Semester. Laura Kohl, Interlibrary Loan Supervisor, has moved into Room 130 in the Reference area.
  5. EASY OFF-CAMPUS DATABASE ACCESS
For those of you who use electronic databases off-campus or plan to do so, there is good news. No longer are you required to set up your web browser for proxy access. The new HELIN proxy server is set up to automatically configure your browser to allow access to all of the online McKillop Library databases. The only requirement for off-campus access to databases will be to enter your name and library barcode number (14 digit number on your Salve card) when prompted by the server.
