De Imperatoribus Romanis: An Online Encyclopedia of Roman Emperors (DIR)

Library Journal (LJ) started a tradition of recognizing outstanding sources for reference by selecting "Best Reference Books of the Year". Now they have recognized the importance of electronic resources and have expanded their "Best Reference.." to three catagories: "Best Reference Sources"; "Best Reference Databases & Discs; and "Best Reference (Free) Web Sites". Dr Michael DiMaio's DIR site was named as one of 15 sites chosen in the "Best Reference (Free) Web Sites 2000" catagory. The writeup by LJ on DIR follows:

"This online encyclopedia includes an index of all the rulers of the Roman Empire from 27 B.C.E. to 1453, biographies of major figures, a history of imperial dynasties, an index of significant battles, and maps of the changing Empire. This is the perfect site to begin a "Western Civ" term paper."
